Little Star could not sleep.
The moon was bright outside his window.
But the darkness felt big and a little scary.
He pulled his blanket up to his chin.
Just then, a soft silver light floated by the window.
It was a tiny creature with shimmering wings.
"Hello, Little Star," she whispered. "I am Luna."
"I am a moonlight sprite. I see you are awake."
"Would you like to see the night with me?"
Little Star nodded, feeling curious.
Luna's light was gentle and warm.
She took his hand, and they stepped softly into the garden.
The world was quiet, but not empty.
"Look," Luna pointed. "There is Oliver the owl."
Oliver sat on a branch, his eyes wise and kind.
"I watch over the garden until dawn," he hooted softly.
"He keeps everyone safe," Luna explained.
Little Star felt a little safer.
They walked further to a small bush.
Tiny lights blinked on and off.
"It's the firefly family!" Little Star whispered.
The fireflies danced, painting the grass with stars.
"They light little paths for night-time friends," Luna said.
Next, they stood by the old oak tree.
The leaves rustled softly in the breeze.
"Listen," Luna said.
The tree seemed to whisper stories of far-away stars.
Little Star listened closely.
He heard tales of constellations sleeping in the sky.
The night was full of soft sounds and secret life.
He saw a hedgehog sniffing for berries.
He heard a stream singing a lullaby to the stones.
Nothing was scary here.
Everything was peaceful and calm.
"Does the night ever sleep?" Little Star asked.
"The night rests," Luna answered. "But it also watches."
"Just like Oliver, and the fireflies, and me."
"We are all gentle companions until the sun returns."
Little Star understood.
The darkness wasn't empty. It was full of quiet friends.
He felt a warm feeling in his heart.
His fear had melted away like morning mist.
Luna smiled. "It is almost time for dawn."
She walked Little Star back to his window.
The first light of morning touched the sky.
Pink and gold colors spread slowly.
"Thank you, Luna," Little Star said.
"Thank you for showing me the night."
"You are welcome, Little Star," Luna whispered.
"Remember, you are never alone in the dark."
"Goodnight, or rather, good morning."
Luna faded into the growing light.
Little Star climbed back into his bed.
He felt cozy and safe under his blanket.
He closed his eyes.
Now, the quiet sounds of the night were a comfort.
He imagined Oliver blinking on his branch.
He imagined the fireflies' gentle glow.
He imagined the old tree whispering.
He knew friendly lights were watching over the world.
Little Star drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep.
He dreamed of silver sprites and starry paths.
And he slept soundly, knowing gentle companions were always there, until the bright and cheerful dawn.
